Substrate
Its shape and charge match the active site. Binding forms an enzyme–substrate complex.
You control an enzyme in the cytoplasm. Enzymes are biological catalysts. Move toward a compatible substrate to form an enzyme–substrate complex at the active site.
Bind substrates with shapes compatible with the active site. The enzyme catalyzes their conversion into products.
Choose the concentrations for trial 1. Then change one concentration and repeat the 60-second run.
IDENTIFY BEFORE CONTACTRed inhibitors block the active site. Green does not mean safe: some green molecules also inhibit the enzyme. Read the label in the circle before making contact.
Its shape and charge match the active site. Binding forms an enzyme–substrate complex.
It fits the active site but blocks substrates. The enzyme cannot react there until it leaves.
Its shape does not fit. Your enzyme cannot turn it into a product.
It binds at a different site, called the allosteric site. This changes the active site and slows the reaction.
Move. Your enzyme moves forward automatically. Use the arrow keys to steer. Use W / S to change speed and Q / E to rotate your enzyme.Touch and hold the scene in the direction you want to turn, or drag the left pad. Hold Speed + / − to change speed or Roll to rotate.
Bind. Stop steering with a substrate in the circle to follow it. After three seconds, your enzyme moves in for collision. Steer to release it.
Heat. Tap Heat to raise temperature. You can also hold T. Overheating distorts the active site.
Slow or pause. Hold Space to slow down. Press Esc to pause.Hold Brake to slow down. Tap Pause to stop the game.
